Sichi Go San

Kids Kimono Photoshoot

What is
Sichi Go San?

Shichi-Go-San (七五三) — literally “Seven-Five-Three” — is a traditional Japanese celebration for children aged 3, 5, and 7.

Shichi-Go-San is a special occasion to celebrate children’s growth and well-being, dress them in beautiful traditional attire, and express gratitude while wishing for a healthy and happy future.

Typically held in November, families often visit Shinto shrines for blessings and take commemorative photos to capture these precious moments during the autumn season.

This rite of passage not only honors children’s milestones but also serves as a cherished family tradition, blending culture, beauty, and heartfelt wishes for the next stage of life.

Who it’s for?

  • Girls are celebrated at ages 3 and 7

  • Boys are celebrated at age 5

These ages were historically considered special milestones in a child’s development.

We also welcome girls and boys aged 10 for the “Half-Adult Ceremony.”

Children of any age are also welcome if you would like to take commemorative photos in a kimono.
Please feel free to contact us for more details.

Be sure to check out our FAQ (Q&A) below.
If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Q and A

Below are some of the questions we often receive from our clients.

Q 1:Can I choose the time for the photoshoot?

Due to the limited sizes and types of kimonos and hakama available for rental, we are generally unable to accept specific time requests for the photoshoot.

However, if you are coming from a long distance or have unavoidable commitments such as lessons, please let us know. We will do our best to accommodate your preferred time if possible.

For your child’s comfort, we kindly recommend keeping the day of the photoshoot as relaxed and flexible as possible.

Q 2:What kind of hair styling is provided?

For girls, we use wigs or hairpieces and cute accessories to match the kimono style.
Short or bob hairstyles are no problem — we can still create a lovely look with hair ornaments or a small hairpiece if needed.

For boys, we simply use hair wax or spray for a clean and tidy style.
If your child has long hair, please let us know in advance.

Q 2:Can we choose the kimono?

All kimonos are carefully prepared in advance for each child, with adjustments such as shortening the sleeves to fit their shoulder width.
Therefore, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate selections or changes. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Q 3:What should we do if the child refuses to participate in the photoshoot?

For children who have just turned three, they may feel nervous and may not be able to have their hair styled or wear the kimono properly, or they may not want to be apart from their parents.

In such cases, we can take as many family photos as possible with the child being held by their parents.
Additionally, it is possible to reschedule the photoshoot for another time on the same day if needed.

For parents with young children, please read the following reference article.

Q 4:Can siblings be photographed together during the session?

Yes, photographing siblings together is possible. Please note that each child has a designated individual shooting time, so the time for individual shots may be shorter when photographing two children together.

If you are registering two children, please complete one application form per child.

Family photos with everyone together are also possible. Please let us know both when submitting the application and at check-in.

To ensure the best results, the camera will be positioned at the children’s eye level, so we kindly ask parents to always face the camera during the shoot.

Q 4:Do you offer a sibling discount?

A $10 discount applies for the second child.
The first child’s session is $350, and the second child’s session is $340, so the total for two children is $690.

We aim to keep the participation fee as low as possible so that many families can enjoy the photoshoot.

You can also choose the number of photos for each child individually.

Q 4:It’s hard for us to manage the cost for both children at once.

Option 1: Register one child for the full photoshoot, and have the second child join only for kimono rental and dressing for a final sibling photo.
Shooting time and photo data are for the registered child only. Individual photos cannot be taken for the second child. Kimono rental & dressing for the second child is $160.

Option 2: The second child can wear regular clothes or formal attire from home and join the sibling photo.
This way, you can capture a special sibling photo for the price of one session. Please note that the main child’s individual shooting time will be slightly shorter.

Q 5:Is kimono rental and dressing service offered for adults?

If parents would like, kimono rental and dressing is available. At the end of the session, a photo with the whole family can be taken.
The fee is $300 per person.

Q 6:What is “kata-yuki” (shoulder length)?

“Kata-yuki” is a key measurement for kimono sizing. It is the distance from the back of the neck, over the shoulder, to the wrist.
This measurement ensures the sleeves and shoulders fit properly. For children, the kimono is often adjusted to this measurement using folds called “shoulder tucks.”

At the Perth Berries photoshoot, we do not simply put on any kimono at random.
Each kimono is carefully prepared in advance with adjustments such as “shoulder tucks” to fit each child’s body size.
This includes all pieces: kimono, haori (jacket), and nagajuban (under-kimono).

To ensure accurate adjustments and to allow your child to be photographed in a kimono that fits properly, we kindly ask that you measure your child as accurately as possible.
